Collette Edmonds is a new entrant into the art world. A Junior Primary teacher by profession, Collette’s pupils shone at art exhibitions and competitions. Naturally, she progressed from school teacher to art teacher. It became clear that her talent and heart lay in art. She began her Visual Art degree with UNISA and started her successful private art school – THE ART FACTORY in 1992. At the end of 2008 Collette closed the school to focus on her career as an artist.
Collette Edmonds is interested in mysterious and spiritual phenomena.
This has been expressed in her Science Fictional work as well as her engagement with travel experiences, especially to Peru. Other expressions lie in her experience of her son as a Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) sufferer. As a child she loved comics and was a huge admirer of the Superman, Batman and Spiderman series. She was facinated by the emphasis on, and embelishment of the muscular figures of her idealistic heroes. In her most recent work she has combined a cartoon style and formal oil painting with interesting results.
